WELCOME TO THE GIFT SHOP
Yes, quite literally. A gift shop.
If you've paged through this website or some of my other associated sites, by now you may be aware that I'm experimenting with my work in a Gift Economy model.
"What's a Gift Economy?" you may say.
Sure. There's a lot to it. But the essence is this.
Pay what you like.
As much as you like.
Or nothing at all.
Whatever brings a sense of fulfillment to you for this transaction.
My work here is my art. And my art is a gift. And here, that's literal. (Yes, shipping too.)
So it's free yes, in the immediate sense. In a functioning Gift Economy, receivers choose to reciprocate the energy from the transaction in different ways. Receivers may gift the Giver directly. Here in our traditional economy, this would simply be money. By paying for it. And there's nothing wrong with that. Receivers of gifts sometimes do just pay an outright number to the Gifter. And you can do that here, simply and quite literally through PayPal. Or sometimes Receivers do so indirectly, be it through a donation on behalf of the Gifter to an organization close to the Receiver. However you like. Whatever makes the two of you feel whole.
Givers, receive the joy of giving.
The Receiver trusts the craft and intention in the Gifter's Gift.
The Gifter trusts the Receiver to appreciate the Gifter's craft and make the transaction whole as the Receiver feels satisfied. Not financially necessarily. There's a whole lot more to this in Charle's Eisenstein's wonderful book, Sacred Economics.
